Coffee Shops in Fountain Square
You are cordially invited to grab a cup of coffee in Fountain Square, one of Indy’s oldest and historically rich neighborhoods. Finding a corporate chain in Fountain Square is like finding a needle in a haystack, and we like it that way, especially when it comes to coffee shops. Green mermaid? Not on my watch.

Bovaconti Coffee
One of the biggest and brightest stars of the Indianapolis coffee community is Bovaconti Coffee in Fountain Square. With an aesthetic that begs to be Instagrammed and a drink menu that makes anyone drool, this café is a prime spot that people drive for hours to visit. That’s not even hyperbole.
The coffee is great and the space is gorgeous, sure, but owner Justin Jones and his team are where the real magic of Bovaconti lives. Even behind masks and plexiglass, the baristas are more than friendly—they are kind and so helpful. And Justin? Well, he’s so great we put him on the cover of our first magazine.
Nine Lives Cat Café
Listen. I have 3 cats, and they are all beautiful, perfect angels, so I’m going to be biased about Nine Lives Cat Café. Tucked just off of the main hub on Shelby Street, this Fountain Square coffee shop is my literal dream.
The space itself is split into two very separate spaces: the café side and the cat playroom. The cafe seats around 20 people and is pretty traditional aside from the giant glass wall that overlooks the cat sanctuary.
Both sides are open to the public but kept very separate for all the reasons. If you’re a Kitten Kid like me, you can make a reservation online to book a time slot to play with the kittens or just check in with the barista on duty.
All of the cats at Nine Lives are available for adoption through Indy Humane, so that’s even better. Honestly, drinking coffee and falling in love with my next kid at the same time sounds very, very ideal. My in-laws once adopted a kid from Nine Lives and he’s arguably my favorite brother-in-law.
Amberson Coffee + Grocer
Listen, there is a difference between Fountain Square and Fletcher Place, but they are also basically conjoined twins, which is always why I like to loop in Fletcher Place coffee shops in these lists. Sometimes when I go to Bovaconti, I park outside, get a drink and say hey, and then walk down to Amberson Coffee + Grocer.
Amberson Coffee in Fletcher Place is new to the Indianapolis coffee scene but has already made a HUGE splash with its service, business model, and focus on sustainability. I could chat all day about their reusable glass jars, drink menu, and grocery selection, but really it’s a place you have to experience for yourself.
Calvin Fletcher Coffee Company
Calvin Fletcher Coffee Company is technically located in Fletcher Place, but six in this hand/half-dozen in the other. Calvin Fletcher’s is the pinnacle of ‘coffee community’ and has been a staple in Indy for a long time. Owners Doug & Jeff Litsey have poured so much into the Fletcher Place community over the years, and Indy is truly better because of them.
