MOTW Coffee & Pastries is one of the best local coffee shops in Indianapolis, and they have made a huge impact on the coffee community here in town. Since I first stepped foot into their first location before they opened, I have been in love with everything they have done—behind the counter and throughout the community.
Since the original MOTW opened on 38th St in Indianapolis, the team has seen a lot of growth! They have since opened up a handful of new cafés in different parts of Indianapolis, and they have even expanded out of state.

38th Street MOTW
The original MOTW on 38th Street will forever have a special place in my heart. I was very excited the first time I was invited to the space while they were doing their soft opening. I remember logging out of work for a few hours one Friday so I could sneak over for a special preview at the invitation of Sajjad, one of MOTW’s owners.
I will never forget that first time at MOTW. Sajjad was (and is) one of the kindest people I have ever met. He had an entire line up for me of drinks & pastries to try and people to meet. It was an unforgettable experience with conversations that took me around the world. While I know that was special for me that day, I know that that experience is not unique to me. The entire MOTW team treats everyone that way. It truly does not matter who you are or where you come from. You matter at MOTW.
MOTW in Castleton
Until MOTW opened in Castleton, the area has been a local coffee desert. I can’t even begin to count the number of DMs I’ve received over the years asking for local coffee shop recommendations in the area and all the times I had to let all of those people down. Now, that has changed!
MOTW’s Castleton location is almost a fairy tale to me because they actually took over an old St*rb*cks after they decided to relocate (literally next door?). What’s better than a new local coffee shop opening up? A local coffee shop opening up in an old Starbucks.
Besides bringing great local coffee to Castleton, another huge advantage of this corporate-chain-turned-local-hot-spot is that it is one of the few local coffee shops in Indianapolis with a drive-thru! Heck yeah. That is a win.
MOTW in Fishers
There was a time in my life where I drove to Fishers every day for work. It’s a weird (and short) part of my life that I often forget about, but it would have been much better had MOTW been around.
Conveniently located on 116th Street, the Fishers MOTW is quite literally perfect. While it may not be the biggest MOTW location, it is one of the most special, at least to me. For some reason, the community at this location is just really, really special. There’s always something great going on that I catch on social media, and they always seem to be staying open even later than they typically do because, well, why not?
The Carmel MOTW
Now that we live downtown, we don’t have many excuses to drive up to Carmel; HOWEVER, that hasn’t stopped me from (often inconveniently) scheduling a ton of my coffee shop meet-ups at the Carmel MOTW. Whoops! It takes me a while to get there, and I often make friends & business connections drive way out of their way to get there, but I won’t make any excuses for it.
The MOTW in Carmel is really great because it has all the stuff we love about MOTW (I’ll repeat myself if I have to), but also, IT IS HUGE. It is huge, it is bright, and it is gorgeous. I love it so much.
MOTW around the country
The owners of MOTW recently announced the exciting opportunity for franchise partners to get in on the community. I didn’t go to business school, so I won’t attempt to explain the logistics. What I will say is that this has already sparked some movement, and there will soon be MOTW coffee shops in Chicago, New York City, and Boston! What a wild ride.
Everything we love about MOTW
I have been gushing about MOTW since they opened their first location, and I don’t plan on stopping any time soon. Sajjad and Fatimah have been so amazing over the years, not just to me, but to everyone. I am so thankful to know them and call them my friends. I am so excited to see how they keep growing in the future! And you’ll always be able to keep up with them here on the Indianapolis Coffee Guide.
