Introducing Love Letters: a new way to show local coffee shops how much we love them.

by Since I started the Indianapolis Coffee Guide in 2016, I have always casually referred to it as my love letter to the local coffee community in Indianapolis. It’s a business on paper because it has to be, but I’ve never set out to actively make money from it. It always has been and always will be a passion project of mine—a giant and literal love letter—which makes this announcement even sweeter.

On each of our coffee shop detail pages, there is a new section called Love Letters, which is an opportunity for YOU to write a love letter to your favorite local coffee shops here in Indy.
The Indianapolis Coffee Guide has always been about lifting up the local coffee community by sharing what I love about each local coffee shop, so it’s about d*ng time I let you all in on the fun, too!
How it works
In short, anyone can fill out a little form to tell other people (and the shop!) what you love about a specific coffee shop. Within 24 hours, the love letter will show up on that shop’s page and the coffee shop will receive a copy of the love letter.
Love Letters are live NOW! So check out our full list of the best local coffee shop in Indianapolis, find your favorite shop (or two or three or more!), and write them a little love note to let the community know what makes them special to you.

Like coffee shop reviews, but better
I have always had a love/hate relationship with public review sites. And if I’m being honest, it’s almost always a hate relationship. There is definitely value in unfiltered public reviews, but for local businesses, to me, it just feels different?
The Indianapolis Coffee Guide has always been about lifting up the community. You don’t lift up a community by pitting community members against each other—in this case through reviews and ratings. It’s never been about rankings or who is better or best.
Everyone has different opinions, tastes, preferences, abilities, etc. and every single local coffee shop offers something completely different from everyone else.
People ask me almost on a daily basis what my favorite local coffee shop is, and I have always responded the same way: I don’t have a favorite because it really just depends on what I’m in the mood for, what part of town I’m in, what kind of time I have, and why I’m looking for a coffee shop in the first place.
It’s my truest and most honest answer!
Thankfully, most of you over the years have been on board with my anti-reviews and -ratings stance! Though I occasionally get the request to add reviews. Love Letters are my compromise. 🙂
