About Chalet

Ohhhhh boy. Where to even begin with this one??

Chalet is the newest concept from our friends at Small Victories Hospitality (Coat Check, Provider, Landlocked, etc.), and boy is it everything we wanted and more. The morning brings us the familiar coffee program we love at Chalet’s sister shops, and after a short break in the afternoon, the menu and vibes shift to natural wines, cheese, and whatever else is grooving behind the bar.

As its name alludes to, stepping into Chalet is like stepping into a cozy 1970’s French ski lodge complete with design elements that make us believe we need to zip up our snow suits and don our skis before heading back out into the quiet of snow-covered hills instead of the quiet of the Butler-Tarkington neighborhood streets.

While the decor and the vibes transport you to the slopes, Chalet’s building actually used to be Fire Station 16, and most of the building’s original features are still being celebrated by the team—just now with the addition of seating, a beautiful bar, vintage ski signs, and colorful wall designs by our friends at Flatland Kitchen.

I’ve always loved this hidden little pocket at 56th & Illinois, and now I am happier than ever to sneak away to visit Chalet. But I’m the MOST happy this part of town has another exceptional local coffee shop to caffeinate the masses instead of that St*rb*cks on the corner. 🙂

Scott Recommends

You all know the drill when it comes to Provider and Coat Check, so ordering at Chalet should be like riding a bike. Obviously the Certain Feelings coffee is dialed in to perfection, and the lattes are all out of this world. If I’m not drinking black coffee, I’m sipping on the famed pistachio latte. Or the butterscotch latte. Or the miso caramel latte. Or…well, you get the idea.
